Closing The Bones

Updated: Jul 27, 2022

Closing the bones - What is it?

It's an ancient ritual of using a 'rebozos' (a long Mexican shawl made on a loom and significant in the Mayan culture) to cradle and wrap a woman's body. Closing the bones is usually done in the postpartum period as the woman is spiritually and physically open during pregnancy and this ritual serves to close that space. This makes it a wonderful ritual for your womb healing ceremony - all mothers with children are forever postpartum really and you don't have to be a mother for it to be a profound and healing experience.

It can be a powerful way to heal grief, the end of a relationship, divorce, anything you require closure on.

You are supported the whole time and music, singing and poetry may also be used to accompany the process.

What does it feel like?

It feels like being in a cocoon. To start with it feels a bit like a massage as there is some gentle rocking involved when you are cradled by the rebozo. Following this is a feeling of being held both physically and emotionally.

For many there is a release and then a sense of peace as they feel relaxed and sleepy. There is no right or wrong way to experience this.

I offer 1-1 Closing of the Bones Ceremonies and also can facilitate group sessions for friends/family.
